Do we all have violent thoughts?

Human beings have been living with violent thoughts since the beginning.

We can see violence as a hereditary factor since our ancestors; we come from an evolutionary chain where violence has been present with voice and vote, being one of the most used forms of communication for a long time in the history of human beings.
Nowadays, despite living in a more organized and connected way, there is still violence; it is enough to turn on the news or be present on the Internet to see events that denote this form of expression.

Many theories justify that violence is present in us because it was necessary, being used as a survival mechanism by the man of the ancient era.

Violent and unpleasant thoughts are part of the human condition; therefore, we all have them, and they are not an exclusive condition of the OCD.

In most cases, OCD patients believe that only we have unpleasant thoughts, images, and situations, which makes us feel even more alone.

Keeping in mind that we all suffer from adverse or unpleasant thoughts is part of recognizing that we should not be responsible for what pops into our minds from one second to the next.

What is essential for us as people with OCD is to understand how we should act when these thoughts visit us (see the section describing the phases of the vicious cycle).
